Teacher Compensation

Throughout the history of the Teacher Compensation Project, a key goal has been to identify emerging issues and to encourage research into these issues. One way the project has done this is to sponsor annual research conferences focused on a particular topic relating to teacher compensation reform. The "product" resulting from each conference has varied, ranging from informal summaries of the conference proceedings, to commissioned papers on particular topics. Each year, a group of invited participants has met to discuss and exchange information about a selected topics.

January 2000 In response to the 1999 Education Summit, which resulted in a commitment from 10 states to consider developing teacher compensation programs that support accountability and capacity improvement, the Project organized a one-day conference on teacher pay innovations for state and local policy makers. The focus of the conference was an overview of SBPA and KSBP, and a dialog between invited policy-makers, practitioners, professional organizations, and representatives of jurisdictions who have begun to innovate. About 75 people attended the conference.
